About this trip

Come join My1FitLife Adventures in Sicily Italy!! Sicily is the biggest island in Italy and in the Mediterranean Sea, an amazing land rich in history and traditions, where art and culture intertwine with wonderful natural beauties. From the sea to the mountains and countryside, from the volcanos to the fishing villages, there are really many reasons why to visit Sicily. As Frederick II, King of Sicily, once said: “I don't envy God's paradise, because I'm well satisfied to live in Sicily”. We will be staying in the small Baroque island of Ortigia, the historic center of Syracuse, is widely considered one of the most beautiful destinations in Sicily. Inhabited for over 3,000 years and renowned for its Greek heritage, it is a "remarkable testimony of the Mediterranean cultures over the centuries” and makes for a perfect weekend escape in any season. Dotted with impressive church facades, outdoor restaurants, elegant piazzas and surrounded by a crystalline sea, Ortigia is more manicured than Catania, less overrun that Taormina and as delicious as Palermo. **Please note, these adventures are planned far in advance, and sometimes things come up that are unforeseen or unplanned. With that forethought, know the group will be accompanied on this adventure by Keith, or Michelle, and/or My1FitLife Ambassador.

Itineraries

Day 1

Date : September 9, 2021

Time : 12:00 am

WELCOME TO SICILY: ONE OF THE MOST ENCHANTING REGION IN ITALY

SERVICE INCLUDE > Private driver

WELCOME to Italy! At the airport, you will meet your private English-speaking driver

who will accompany you to your hotel in Ortigia. When you will arrive, you will have a

free time to relax.

The island of Ortigia is the historical heart of Siracusa. There are fewer archaeological

sites exposed to view here (the island has been heavily built-up ever since the time of the

Greeks), but this is the part of Siracusa you're likely to be wandering around after you've

'done' the mainland points of interest. The tight-knit lanes are pleasant for strolling, and

much of the island's charm lies in wandering down narrow medieval lanes, past

romantically-crumbling - or lovingly-restored - Baroque palaces and churches.

Day 2

the 6th century BC, when Sicily was ruled by the Greeks as part of the ancient

civilization known as Magna Grecia.

Built in the Doric style, the Temple of Apollo in Ortigia is one of the oldest examples of

this kind of temple in Western Europe.

Visible today is a long portion of the cella wall. The cella, in Classical architecture, made

up the part of the temple that housed a portrayal of the god or goddess the temple was

dedicated to.

In the far corner, you can also see two columns with the remains of the architrave on top,

which is the main beam that ran along the top of the columns. Then you will visit The

Fountain of Diana in Piazza Archimede. Archimedes, for whom the piazza is named, is a

well-known classical scientist. He was born in Siracusa in in 287 BC. At the center of the

piazza is the magnificent fountain of Diana. The fountain depicts the myth of the nymph

Arethus

Later you will head to Piazza Duomo to visit the beautiful Cathedral of Siracusa. The

edifice of the church is in the typical Sicilian baroque style, characterized by lots of

undulating shapes and details. This cathedral has a very fascinating aspect, because

in ancient times.

The name Passito comes from the Latin word passum – an ancient Roman sweet wine
that was named after the Latin verb pando – to spread out
This grape sort was originally cultivated in North Africa, probably around the Nile

Delta, close to ancient Alexandria. Later it was transmitted to the European continent and

cultivated by Romans who in turn made it popular all over their Empire.

The technology of producing sweet raisin wine is called rasinate (to dry and shrivel). It

dates back to the Bronze Age and continues almost unchanged until today. The

winemaking process consists of different grape drying methods - either the grapes are left

on the vine without watering or are dried after harvesting on racks or straw mats.
